MAMTA FOMRA Kansa Products
MAMTA FOMRA Kansaware is pure and NABL-certified. Certification from the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories is a hallmark of purity from the government of India.
We know metals are mined and purified to get the desired metal. Metals in raw form are in combination with several other poisonous metals and minerals. We must ensure the metal is purified and rid of the poison. We should avoid eating or cooking with any of those harmful ingredients. Our NABL certification is of the highest purity and is a factor in looking for any Kansa ware.
My Journey for Kansa
My journey into Kansa started with my necessity. As a deep believer in Ayurveda and a yoga enthusiast, I wanted too many answers than I possibly found randomly. I took a deeper dive and found that Ayurveda had much more to offer.
Quality has been a driving force throughout my career as a designer since 1995. Finding the perfect metal with impeccable quality was vital and challenging in Kansa ware.
I was confused between Kansa and Bronze. Due to a lack of awareness, many enthusiastic buyers get Bronze instead of Kansa because the makers use Kansa and Bronze as synonyms. Kansa is an alloy of metals like Copper and Tin in the exact ratio of 78:22. Bronze is an alloy consisting primarily of Copper, commonly with about 12–12.5% Tin and often with the addition of other metals (including aluminium, manganese, nickel, or zinc which makes it softer and easy to beat) and sometimes non-metals, such as phosphorus, or metalloids such as arsenic or silicon. Kansa only in the combination of 78% Copper and 22% Tin gives the desired benefit, and no other permutation and combination of any other or these metals gives the maximum benefit.
I travelled extensively to several destinations to look for the process and purity. Processes differed, from casting and moulding to beating. The mass producers use the moulding process that is prone to breaking & casting is no different.
Beating the Kansa to the desired shape is the original process that makes Kansa so difficult since Kansa is a hard metal to beat to any shape due to the 78:22 per cent copper and bell metal. Kansa utensils made by the Kansara community still hold the art that was dying its natural death until COVID hit the world. The world started looking for healthier options and alternate medicines.
Most of the health benefits were attached to Copper in the Kansa. Most people wondered why not use just the Copper itself. Copper reacts with sour food, salt and lemon, making it harmful to the body. Therefore, it is not advisable to eat or cook in Copper. It is in the right combination with bell metal that works best for Copper.
